You, the parent of a homework trapped child, find yourself constantly
thinking about homework. You use the word, homework (which I call the H-word), many
times during the day. You feel tense every
time you mention homework, expecting to get an off-putting or angry response. You talk to your child’s teachers more than you
want, and you don’t feel good at the end of those talks. You make plans with
the school for greater communication, but, in the back of your mind, you know these
plans will not work. In the process, you
feel that your relationship with your child has suffered and become more conflictual
than you ever thought it could be. You feel that you have lost authority with
your child in areas other than homework as well.
